Major Geomembrane Manufacturer Acquisition Currently in Play
The deal which is at its inception will dramatically alter the current competitive scenario. What this shows is that the current HDPE geomembrane producer landscape can change significantly within the space of one month.

Within the HDPE geomembrane manufacturer ownership base, there is currently a strong focus on investment and acquisition opportunities. Understanding the competitive landscape needs to take into consideration many important factors such as business growth, recent developments, production capability and geographic sites.

The acquisition and consolidation of the leading players will help accelerate the development of new proprietary geomembrane products though synergies of research and development. Major growth areas for HDPE geomembranes are high functionality liners, conductive liners, coal ash (CCP) liners and barrier liners for PFAS Encapsulation in Engineered Facilities underpinned by regulatory mandates.

There will be increased emphasis on expanding the incoming geomembrane resin supplier base to include new suppliers such as Exxon-Mobil, Borealis, Sabic, Equistar, Ineos, Titan and Q-Chem. The deal will accelerate capacity expansion in the Asia region particularly in the triad of Thailand-Malaysia-China.

Margin expansion will be driven through operational improvements and economies of scale both of which will decrease costs. It is anticipated there will be increased sales of higher value proprietary products and continuous operational improvements to significantly expand margins.

Major Opportunities for HDPE geomembrane remain Liquid Containment for Water Infrastructure, Waste Containment for Emerging Markets/Countries and Oil & Gas (Fracking). There will be increased need for HDPE geomembranes to cap existing impoundments and to line new landfills worldwide.

Overall, the global regulatory climate continues to favour HDPE liner containment solutions. The information and opinions contained above are provided as at the date of this news alert. Your correspondent will be able to reveal the full nature of deal in coming weeks.
