BREAKING NEWS

Groupe Solmax Navigates an Uncertain Macroeconomic Environment and Increasingly Competitive Market Conditions
Revenue this year has trended lower than expectations as volumes continue to be constrained by customer project delays and competitive pressures in the environmental services business.
Groupe Solmax has negotiated an agreement with lenders for a one-year extension on its revolving credit facility.
The transaction reduces near-term refinancing risk and provides available liquidity to meet the company’s working capital needs.
The leverage expectation by S&P (~9×) is quite elevated; for a business like geosynthetics, this suggests risk of margin pressure or need for high growth to deleverage.
Recently Solmax announced a strategic consolidation of its Americas manufacturing footprint, concentrating production into its larger facilities.
The consolidation move in manufacturing means Solmax is seeking operational efficiencies and responding to market pressure (e.g., price competition, input cost inflation, project delays)

BREAKING NEWS

Tensar CMC’s ‘BB+’ Ratings Affirmed as Leverage Increase According to S&P Global
CMC will use debt to fund the $1.84 billion purchase price of Foley Products after using cash proceeds for the $675 million CP&P acquisition in September 2025

Tensar’s Debt Position Increases
S&P Global affirmed Tensar’s Parent Commercial Metals Company (CMC)’s long-term issuer credit rating at ‘BB+’ (speculative-grade, one notch below investment grade). The outlook likely remains stable, but the agency notes higher leverage following two large acquisitions:

  • $675 million for CP&P in September 2025, funded largely from cash
  • $1.84 billion for Foley Products, to be funded primarily through new debt

Affirmation at BB+ means S&P believes CMC will maintain sufficient cash flow and operating performance to stay within its current credit category, even with higher debt levels.

Cooley Develop Cost-Effective Reinforced Polyethylene Geomembrane with High Durability [PDF]

Lifetime Assessment of Polyolefinic Liners for Pit Thermal Energy Storages
This paper presents the lifetime assessment of polyolefinic liner materials for pit thermal energy storages (PTES). The study introduces a predictive approach based on accelerated aging of micro-specimens, enabling lifetime extrapolation to real-scale liners under service-relevant conditions. A novel high-temperature-resistant polypropylene (PP-HTR) was tested between 85°C and 135°C. Aging was evaluated by oxidation onset temperature and strain-at-break, determined through thermal analysis and tensile testing. Results were compared to commercial polypropylene random copolymer (PP-R) and high-density polyethylene (PE-RT) grades. For lifetime extrapolation, an Arrhenius relationship was established for temperature dependence and a power law model for the effect of thickness. Assuming cumulative damages, lifetime values were estimated for several upcoming PTES. The novel PP-HTR liner exhibited superior long-term durability, outperforming PP-R and PE-RT materials by a factor of 4 and 6, respectively. Endurance times of up to 50 years at 80°C were deduced.
