Group of Farmers from Central West New South Wales, Australia Take on Holcim Over Firestone GeoGard™ EPDM Geomembrane Installed Over 10 Years Ago
Trangie-Nevertire Co-operative Limited vs Holcim Solutions and Products EMEA (Federal Court of Australia 2025)
The matter relates to lining 138 km of channels with EPDM rubber to minimize seepage losses as part of the Trangie modernisation project.
The selection of Firestone GeoGard™ EPDM for the channel liner was a major leap of faith as the product had never been used before on such a large scale in irrigation channels worldwide, but the advice, backup and warranty from Firestone gave the TNCL Board the confidence to proceed. The installed EPDM liner has unfortunately undergone excessive shrinkage under the harsh Australian sun leading to failure of critical seams.
The Trangie-Nevertire Co-operative Limited (TNCL) is a member-owned irrigation scheme based in Central West New South Wales, Australia. Established in 1968, TNCL was formed to construct and manage an extensive 240 km open channel network to deliver water from the Macquarie River to local farms. This infrastructure supports the Trangie Nevertire Irrigation Scheme (TNIS), with each TNIS member holding shares in TNCL.
