Particle Shape Analysis of Tailings Using SOM & Digital Image Processing
ExcelPlas Labs have developed a technique for Scanning Optical Microscopy of tailings in conjunction with digital image processing techniques for the quantification of geometric descriptors (aspect ratio, sphericity, convexity, roughness and angularity) of the tailings particles. The particle shape descriptors have an important relationship with the pumpability, wear behaviour and head losses of tailings slurries.
