Warning Over Geomembrane Carbon Blacks
Carbon blacks are classified by the primary size as classified in ASTM D1765. For instance, the primary size of N330, N336, N550, and N660 grades is around 30, 36, 50, 60 nm, respectively.
Beware of GMBs with N660 carbon black as 60 nm is too coarse for optimum UV screening.  We are aware of N660 carbon black being used in Geomembrane made in Asia.
Note also as carbon black particle size decreases, specific surface area increases and the smaller carbon blacks require more antioxidants/stabilizer be added to the resin to compensate for that proportion of stabilising additives adsorbed on the high surface area carbon black particles.
