Perhaps a Practical Alternative for Containment !
With global supply disruptions, sourcing HDPE geomembranes has become increasingly challenging. At times like this, a coated GCL may be a practical solution. Its simpler installation, lower labour and installation requirements, and its self-healing properties make it a reliable option when conventional liner supply is constrained.

Geosynthetic Companies are Struggling to Procure Polyethylene Due to Rising Naphtha Prices
The Middle East conflict and associated rising energy costs are creating uncertainty for global feedstocks and resin production and disrupting supply chain logistics and prices.
Leading global players with extensive PE resin portfolios are all impacted. Costs for the vulnerable regions are set to increase from the Strait of Hormuz closure/restrictions.
Because ethylene produced from naphtha is the basic feedstock for PE resin, shifts in naphtha supply directly affect PE supply. With supplies tightening for HDPE used for geomembranes, broad production and raw material supply disruptions are a major concern. The war in Iran comes at a moment when European geosynthetic manufacturers were already losing money and closing plants because of high production costs, sluggish demand and competition from Asian imports. European geosynthetic manufacturers are bracing for the higher costs that will come in its wake. One European geosynthetic company reportedly has only about one week of MDPE resin inventory. Disruptions in raw material supply have put that company on the brink of halting operations. Major suppliers—large petrochemical corporations producing HDPE and MDPE—are reducing allotments or cancelling some orders. Raw material prices have surged for PE resins clearly worsening profitability, but geosynthetic companies under supply contracts with large corporations must keep producing and therefore have to deliver at a loss.
Civil Engineering Manufacturer Wrekin Bucks Construction Slowdown with Strong 2025 Growth
The Lichfield-based business, alongside its geosynthetics division Geoworks recorded a 12% increase in turnover even as UK housebuilding activity fell by around 8% amid high interest rates and persistent inflation.

Lessons Learned from Landfill Liner Quality Control: A Case Study
The analysis highlights key factors influencing liner performance, including soil compaction, permeability optimization, and geosynthetic seam integrity. Field measurements demonstrate that rigorous quality control during liner installation significantly reduces defect density, decreasing from 28.6 instances of damage per hectare in 2021 to 15.8 instances of damage per hectare in 2023. Seam integrity improved from a 45% pass rate in air pressure tests in 2021 to 90% in 2023, emphasizing the impact of thermal imaging techniques and structured installation plans.
